The excellent thermal and acoustic properties of glasswool insulation make it ideal for lining sheet metal ductwork. Insulated ducting can decrease air conditioning costs by an estimated 10-12%. Insulation also decreases the transmission of HVAC noise through the duct system as well as reducing noise transfer from one room to another through the ducts.
Through reducing condensation on the duct surfaces the opportunity for microbial growth and other moisture related damage is decreased.
Other uses include storage tanks, process vessels, appliance cabinets, electrostatic precipitators, plant rooms and the manufacture of acoustic baffles.
Glasswool insulation is cut with an oscillating knife. For glasswool insulation the knife often has a serrated edge and commonly oscillates at 5000/minute. This type of cutting also requires a c-axis on the cnc machine.
